Bridget Riley: Working Drawings by Bridget Riley and Alexandra Tommasini

Sale price¥8,900

Bridget Riley's paintings have evolved over many years through systematic analysis of color, tone, scale, rhythm, etc. For Riley, research is the core of the process, and analysis and synthesis are what she spends the most time on. Riley has stated, "My work is based on inquiry, and research is my primary method of inquiry and my guide to painting" (2005).

The book explores Riley's unique thinking through a selection of over 150 paintings, colour analyses, annotations, scale studies and cartoons, many of which were exhibited in a retrospective held by the Scottish National Galleries in Edinburgh and London in 2019-2020.

It also includes quotations from four books focused on Riley's research and practice, written by art historians, curators, museum directors, and Riley herself, shedding further light on the enduring role of drawing and the process of inquiry that is at the heart of her work.
