Josef Albers: Life and Work by Jo Ellison and Louise Rytter

Sale price¥5,300

Josef Albers studied at the Bauhaus and after graduating, he taught at the Bauhaus alongside Klee and Kandinsky. Albers' most famous work is the series "Homage to the Square," which is a series of overlapping squares of multiple colors, and has left behind over 2,000 different color combinations as an experiment in color interactions. After the Bauhaus was dismantled by the Nazis, he moved his base of operations to the United States, where he continued his Bauhaus-style art education at Black Mountain College and Yale University, known as the pioneers of color research and the graduates of many contemporary American artists.

This book, compiled by art critic Charles Darwent, traces Albers' life and work, and provides a wide-ranging explanation of Albers' artistic and political activities, as well as his friendships and rivalries, based on various previously unknown works, documents, and illustrations.
